The inhabitants of early Lapland got to "know"
the future through the witch drum of the local shaman. All of the
markings on the witch drum - and their combinations - have definite
meanings. Today the Witch Drum is an original and unique gift item.
It is usually given to a very good friend or distinguished person.
Drums are made from wood and reindeer rawhide.
The hair is removed from the skin which is stretched over the wooden
frame and secured tightly on the underside of the frame. The hammer
and the pointing "finger" for the drum are usually made
of reindeer antler.
The reindeer skin is dyed by hand and thus no two
drums are alike.
