Lapland Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus)

The name reindeer originates from the Micmac Indians who live in the eastern part of Canada.

The word "rein" means "digger" and reflects the manner in which the reindeer digs its hoofs into the snow to find food. Reindeer grow new fur and antlers each year.

Male reindeer shed their antlers after the mating season in the fall. Females shed their antlers in the spring - a couple of days after the calves are born. Reindeer are the only member of the deer family where MALE and FEMALE both grow antlers.

The picture of a reindeer hide on the right was taken in 1976 by renowned Finnish sculptor, Professor Armas Hutri. He presented it to Te-Ri Products as a gift. We display it proudly in our website and catalogs.

At that time Professor Hutri came to Canada to unveil The Immigrants' Monument "The Swans" at the Fort William International Friendship Gardens, Thunder Bay, Ontario (Picture on the right). For more information about Armas Hutri's impressive artwork you may contact Te-Ri Products.

Lately, others have used our reindeer hide picture on their websites and catalogs without our consent. Also, others have adopted the size and price structure originated by Te-Ri Products.
